Montauk Digest
David Lion Rattiner
The British Monster? Cherio.
It seems that England is jealous of our unidentified hero known as the Montauk Monster. A British newspaper in North Devon, England, has reported that residents don't know what to make of the fanged creature found on a local beach. Seal? Sea lion? BEAST OF EXMOOR, PERHAPS?"
Oh please, England. Montauk has the Montauk Monster, get over it. Nobody likes a copycat. And nobody wants to look at anymore pictures of a rotting dead dog for that matter.
7-11
Montauk is going bananas over the progress of a 7-11 being built in town. The 7-11 is being aggressively blocked by many prominent members of the local community. Should the 7-11 be built, it would mark the first time a real commercial-like entity has hit the streets in Montauk. The owner of the site is Montauk business owner Peter Ferraro, who will be enjoying a lease payment should the deal work. Can you blame the guy for wanting to rent an empty building? No you can't, but that doesn't mean that a lot of people are very upset about such a large corporate entity like 7-11. A petition has been created that East Hampton Town should insist on a site plan for the project and it has been filled to the brim with signatures.
Wouldn't it be great if all of the stores slowly but surely change to giant, fancy Fifth Avenue corporations like it has on Main Street in East Hampton? Oh yes, that would be just wonderful.
The Heifer Is Back
A black heifer that escaped the absolutely gorgeous Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk, has returned! The animal left the ranch in May to the dismay of many, and found her way back to Deep Hollow Ranch on New Year's Day. Amelia, as she is called, obviously needed to just get away from it all for a while, only to realize how good she has it in Montauk.
Ponzi Boy
Madoff, the very much loved, then hated man has a house in Montauk where he used to barbecue for hundreds of friends and business associates. There are plenty of locals in Montauk who have dealt with him from a service perspective that describe him as extemely nice. However, he did steal $50 billion. Just say it, $50 billion. His Montauk beach house will be hitting the market soon and if you call a local real estate agent, you might get a good deal. Just don't use a realtor that Madoff suggests.
No More Julia
Julia Prince, an East Hampton Town Board Member, will no longer own the post of liason to the Town for the Montauk Citizen's Advisory Committee. She has been replaced by Pete Hammerle, a ten-year veteran to the post. Prince will continue to attend the meetings of the MCAC on her own however, and will be very much welcomed at them. Prince lives in Montauk, and according to Town Supervisor Ed McGintee, the move was designed to give her more experience with other parts of the town. There are some that are visibly upset about the move however, especially members of the MCAC, and Hammerle, who described the situation as awkward. If there is one person that has her heart in Montauk, it is Julia.
