SKATEBOARDING PIONEER DIES IN MONTAUK
Andy Kessler, 48, considered by some to be the "godfather" of New York City skateboarding and who created the Montauk Skate Park, died being transported to Southampton Hospital last week. Kessler was stung by a wasp at the Montauk cottage he was staying at and suffered a severe allergic reaction. He died of a heart attack following the sting. Some surfers have arranged to paddle out to Ditch Plains in tribute.
TWO LOCAL KIDS WIN MERCURY GRAND SLAM
Will Schumann and Tanner Bertrand, of East Hampton, won the Montauk Mercury Grand Slam this weekend. They are the youngest group to ever win the tournament and won with a record number of points. Congratulations to them.
NEW SHOW ON AT DEPOT GALLERY
There will be a new exhibit on at the Depot Gallery starting August 21st and continuing until August 31st. It will feature works of Steve Levin, Anne Weissman and Catherine Silver. There will be a reception for the artists on Saturday, August 22nd, from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information call 631-668-5336.
