MTK Digest: Montauk News You Need To Know

MADOFFS GIVE UP MONTAUK HOME

Bernie Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison on Monday June 29. The Ponzi-schemer and his wife have signed over their house on Old Montauk Highway, as well as many other trophies from Bernie's seemingly impossible thieving, including a set of silverware valued at $65,000 from the Montauk house.

STILL A NO-GO FOR VIKING EXPANSION

The Viking has been planning a new fast ferry route that would link Montauk, Block Island, New Bedford and Martha's vineyard together. The federal court, however, said that the ordinance from East Hampton Town that bans vehicle-carrying and fast ferries out of Montauk is still valid.

BOOK FAIR ON THE GREEN

Head down to the Green in Montauk on Saturday for the Montauk Public Library's Book Fair. It's a great way to spend the morning. It will be going on from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The rain date is July 5th, if you have any questions call the library at 631-668-3377.

MONDAY NIGHT CONCERTS

Throughout July and August there will be concerts on the Green in town every Monday evening. They will take place at 6:30 p.m. in July, and will move to 6 p.m. throughout August. This is yet another great piece of entertainment offered to us by the Montauk Chamber of Commerce.

MONTAUK- THE NEW WEST CHELSEA?

Ashley Barker of Fashion Week Daily wrote lengthily about the East End on Monday. Barker asked if Montauk was the new West Chelsea. No, Fashion Week Daily, it most certainly is not.

NEW OWNERS AT NATURALLY GOOD FOOD AND CAFÉ

Lauren Katz and Andrea Mavro are the new owners of Naturally Good Food and Café on South Etna Ave in Montauk as of last week. Katz told us that they have "loved this place for a long time and don't want to change anything. Maybe we'll add a few things, but that's it." For more information call them at 631-668-9030 or stop by their shop, which is located on S Etna Ave and S Essex.
