Man On The Street

Is Spencer Tunick's Work Art Or Is It Distasteful?

Photos and interviews by Mara Certic

"It's not distasteful, but I didn't see it as art, other than the human body as a thing of beauty. I guess it's art in terms of artistic arrangements, because it takes an artistic eye to arrange all of these things. It certainly wasn't distasteful, though."

"If it's true that artists suffer for their art then I think this qualifies. I mean just imagine lying naked on freezing cold rocks at the crack of dawn, and I mean that literally, next to other goose-bumped, naked strangers. I don't think that that's something you'd do for a laugh."

Mia Jurich

"I think it's ridiculous even to mention that it could be distasteful. It's obviously art. If nude paintings are automatically accepted as art then why would people even suggest that photos of naked people could offend."
