Surfing Magazine Declares Montauk As A Top 10 Surfing Town, Here Are 10 Reasons Why

We have been saying it for a long time, and we have known it for a long time, but it is now official, Montauk is a surfing paradise. Head down to the beaches or to the secret spots that we will never share with you, and you will see for yourself. Boards sticking out of pickup trucks are hoisted out onto the sand as wetsuits and sex wax make their way out to the horizon. Surfing and Montauk go hand in hand.

Surfing Magazine, the bible of the surfing world, has just declared Montauk as one of its top ten best surfing towns in America, stating in the article that Montauk has all of the elements that a surfer needs, such as amazing waves and a beautiful coastline. Well, for us, that was enough, but we decided to take it one step further and tell you the top ten reasons "why" Montauk is the best surf town in the entire world.

Reason Number 1: The water is cold - Because Montauk is so unbelievably attractive to surfers, it has a huge danger of drawing a significant amount of idiot surfers who can ruin it for everybody, but thankfully, we have cold water and rocks to weed them out. Yes, maybe by the end of August you might catch a fat guy with a water proof Blackberry heading out on a 15 foot long board blocking the lineup, but most of those guys avoid Montauk because "yikes that water is cold!"

Reason Number 2: The Surfrider Foundation - The people in Montauk care about the preservation of our beaches and waves more so than any other surfing community in the world and nothing can make that clearer than the Surfrider Foundation's chapter in Montauk. These guys attend meetings, write letters and fight battles relentlessly to protect the beaches here, and their work shows.

Reason Number 3: Our surf shops - Got a question? Need some equipment? The peddlers of Montauk surfing gear are among the most knowledgeable, they take unbelievable care of their shops but at the same time live to surf. No little-boys-club shops here, Montauk surf shops make you feel welcome and happy.

Reason Number 4: The seafood - Nothing is like a four hour surfing session and then having fresh grilled Tuna that was literally caught thirty minutes ago. This doesn't happen anywhere else. It's unbelievable.

Reason Number 5 - The coastline. I don't care how many places you've been, nothing beats the coastline in Montauk, it's the sickest view on the planet.

Reason Number 6: The secret spots - Let's put it this way, the secret surfing spots in Montauk are so good, surfers don't even let their children in on them.

Reason Number 7: The breakfast places - In the mood for the most ridiculously delicious bacon egg and cheese sandwich and a rich cup of coffee? Please people, that's an art form out here in Montauk. The array of breakfast places where you can sit down or takeout is crazy delicious.

Reason Number 8: The girls - New York City's top female talent venture out to Montauk to get a glimpse of the surfers out here, and they parade on the beaches like goddesses. On top of that, some of the sexiest surfer chicks on the planet fall in love with Montauk, we think it has something to do with the radar tower.

Reason Number 9: The history - There is nothing quite like surfing off the coast of a Lighthouse that was commissioned by George Washington, yes, the George Washington, you know, the guy that is on the 1 dollar bill and was our first president!

Reason Number 10: The old timers - He's in his late fifties and he long boards the $%^@ out of a wave at Ditch Plains. The old timers out here are all accomplished in their own right and they take care of the beaches out here like they take care of their families.
