Sex Offender Taken Into Custody

Police in Montauk arrested Alfred Balcuns, 51, at 15 Fenwick place and charged him with sexual abuse. Mr. Balcuns is alleged to have had sexual contact with a child under 11 years old. He is being held in county jail and will not post bail.

Unlicensed

Luis Remache, 53 of Montauk, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Assault

Jovan Mejias, 24, was charged with assault with a weapon as well as criminal possession of a weapon in Montauk. During a domestic dispute, Mr. Mejias stabbed two family members.

DWI

Police patrolling Montauk caught several drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend. Paul Rickel, 51, was charged for a second time within the last ten years last week.

Stolen

A man reported that somebody stole two rings worth approximately $400 from the Montauk Fine Arts Festival. Police have opened up an investigation into the incident.

Fire

A man avoided a smoky situation when his apartment caught fire in Montauk last week. The MFD put out the blaze and determined it was because of a broken freezer fan. No injuries were reported.
