Breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table! Photos by Genevieve Salamone

I've been itching to write about my trip to Disney World. Don't worry, this hasn't turned into the kid's column - I really am all about the food. Even at Disney World - especially at Disney World.
I hadn't been to Disney in over a decade. I was vacationing with my fiancé and his parents, who took us on this trip as a Christmas gift. (I was so excited I was all packed a week before we left.)
His parents told us that we had the deluxe dining plan, and I didn't really know what that meant, but I was ecstatic when I found out. Now I'm convinced the Disney dining plan is probably the best thing ever. Each day you're entitled to three meals, which include an appetizer, entrée, dessert and a drink - and this is at any restaurant within all of the Disney parks, including Downtown Disney! Besides all that, you get a complimentary Disney mug which you can fill up endlessly at whichever resort you're staying at, and you get two snacks a day, which could be anything from a bottle of water to a Mickey Mouse ice cream bar.

Breakfast with Chef Mickey!

My favorite place to go was Epcot, obviously - it's foodie paradise. Think of it. It's like watching a marathon of $40 A Day, except I got to be Rachael Ray! Every country has its own fare, some in pricey restaurants, some in the form of street vendors or carts. In Germany, there's about a mile long stretch (yes, I am exaggerating a bit) of all different kinds of ales and beers. It's a feast for the eyes as well as the belly, and I spent the better part of the day roaming the streets of Paris, Japan, Mexico, Italy...

OHANA Dinner at the Polynesian!
|
In the Polynesian resort at Disney there's a restaurant called "Ohana" (which, if you've seen Disney's Lilo and Stitch, means "family") and boy, they're not kidding. It's family-style Hawaiian barbeque, were the portions are big and the pork is plentiful. YUM. By far my favorite night out.
Breakfast at Cinderella's Castle was, quite frankly, magical (and delicious!) The wait staff calls everyone "My Lord" and "My Lady" and my healthy choice breakfast was a sight to see, complete with flambéed bananas. Then there was the Mickey Mouse waffles, which I had to have at every meal they were so darn cute!
I know most people go to Disney to enjoy the parks, the rides and the countless characters (and trust me, I did plenty of that stuff, too!) but in true foodie fashion, all I can talk about is the food!
