The two following poems below were written by Michael Berger who is a year round Montauk Shores Condominium (Ditch Plains Trailer Park) Resident, a Montauk Fuels Gas Station attendant and a retired teacher.
the montauk manor
the lap of luxury fingertips away found by the montauk manor, topped a steep hill overlooking waters in directions to be found; a fluttering of pages time past, this european style chalet beckens in all its regal style, the constructs sound; the lobby of the manor, unique and one of a kind, well appointed period furniture, welcomes all, each is amid beauty crowned; to breath in the subtle atmosphere a huge space is entered, walk upon stone mosaic flooring, high above, wood beamed apexed ceilings, the majesty of past glories of fabled tables round; how can the eyes capture rare beauty? to wit, with pen in hand onto paper to express the unrealized bounty of this saged and splendid place, with words limited entreat in bounds!; romance your lady friend, have a fireside chat, cool drinks in hand, watch the demons in dancing flames dazzle by active fireplaces!; be alone if you wish, sit in comfort fireside, read another chapter of the great american novel, novel in the aura of quietude and sanctity this esteemed place offers, amid fluid flames fluttering in staged races frowned; go outside, open the solid oak beveled glass doors, refresh in the mild wind driven salt air, walk in any direction, the grassy knolls, the mature oak, maple, and spruce trees offer shade and distinctive presence, the flowered arrangements feasts in tapestries of colors, smells, and sizes; look upon the horizons, south be it ocean, west be it the pond and town, north be it the harbor and bay, east the lake arises; Montauk, a world away, a surreal watery wonderment, channels of travel connected to all parts elsewhere everywhere, indeed a paradise, needing no compromises!!
south beach
perhaps the calmest of waters in Montauk, this small gem by the bay appeals to the inner child we all possess!; tiny waves against a hot summers sun, mild seaward breezes, the poignant past memories of childhoods not long ago, the minds eye forgotten recess in repast; each day in Montauk offers it's hidden treasures, south lake beach offers a quiet peaceful safe haven located at the southern most corner of our bay, a memory to last; the smaller of children, a family retreat, play by the beach at waters edge, pails in hand, build mounds of wet sand, to stand against neptunes path; pretty homes abound both sides of this natural alcove, in deeper waters, knees to midsection, clammers delight in hand picking the bay floor, for free goodies by nature's store; a short distance away, even deeper waters, sailors explore the depth and breath bay ward in small skiffs floating wind driven, not far from shore; further north, a handful of row boats, weaving, abide the tides, parked by small anchors, fishing for game, lines cast to explore; in deepest of waters, harbor bound, kayaks streaming solitary rowers exort and extol, taking a tour, the pleasure is pure!; the harbor itself, a distance away, docked boats and small ships glitter, as sun reflected waters glimmer in sublimed retreat, awaitng a new venture in store; the inlet watery path to the bay, a hub of traffic, between east and west lake drives, vessels in motion steer, a days passion, afloat engines a-roar; this oft forgotten spot, not meant for the rigors to excite, suggests it's mild calm beauty, as a recreation of safe passage for all the young at heart!/mb
