On October 2nd, the Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum Committee held their Annual Dinner at Gosman's Restaurant. The dinner was well attended with about fifty guests including its Board Members, staff of the Lighthouse, curators of the Second House Museum and spouses.

It was great to see everyone together, both old timers and newly hired in a beautiful setting like Gosman's.

Betsy White, President and Treasurer of the Montauk Historical Society, welcomed everyone and thanked the entire staff for a job well done. Tricia White, Brian Pope and Bob Dippolito were acknowledged. Members of the Board of Directors were introduced including Robert Schorr, Joe Gaviola, Dick White and Dave Webb. Eleanor Ehrhardt, Greg Donohue, Bill Wilkinson, Ed Michels, Kevin Reilly, Scott Grimm-Lyon and Marge Winski, our Lighthouse keeper, were all missed.

Betsy White also informed the group that in spite of our nation's bad economy, the Lighthouse did well this year. She was happy to announce the museum's latest acquisition, of the 1795 document, signed by President George Washington, regarding the survey and purchase of the land at Turtle Point, for $250.00. Betsy was also proud to mention our tour presenter, Henry Osmer's, first book "On Eagle's Beak." Published earlier this year, the book is the only one entirely devoted to the Lighthouse.

A prayer was led by our Reverend Doug Haak, who honored the recently departed former co-worker, Corky Adams. Also there was a wish made for a speedy recovery for Marge's mother, Peg Winski.

As the sun was setting, hors d'oeuvres of delicious stuffed clams, jumbo-sized shrimp cocktails, brie cheese, grapes, and crackers filled with bite sized roast beef and turkey were served buffet style. White or Red Wine was complimentary. A choice of three different soups -- Lobster Bisque, Manhattan or New England Clam Chowder was offered, followed by a generous amount of salad with house dressing. A choice of three entrees of boneless chicken breast, sirloin steak or salmon were served.

For dessert, pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream and cinnamon, and freshly brewed coffee were served. A surprise cupcake with a lighted candle was brought to Sally as the gang sang Happy Birthday.
