A Walk On A Montauk Beach Becomes An Inspiration
By Eugenia Bartell
Who would have thought that a rock found along the Atlantic coastline in Montauk would ignite the imaginative spark of a young, vivacious girl. During that beach walk, Barbara Campbell dreamed about taking time from her busy life to retreat to Montauk and enjoy the serenity of it and wanted to share that feeling through jewelry.

Then Barbara discovered a special Montauk stone and she decided to use that stone to make her first necklace, now known as the "Lucky Six" necklace. Today, instead of a stone, the simple, stunning gold necklace resembles a six-petal blossom. "Eye Witness News" anchor Lorie Stokes is one of the first women to wear Barbara's "Lucky Six" which she raved about during one of her television broadcasts. Both Lorie and renowned make-up artist Mally Roncal, purchased their necklaces at Amagansett's eclectic shop, Gone Local, where you can pick up some jewelry there yourself.
Simple and elegant best describes Barbara's jewelry. Like her glamorous mother Fina, Barbara could easily model her own jewelry. A tall and gorgeous woman, Barbara looks smart in her simple, fashionable clothes adorned with the artful beauty of one of her rings, bracelets, necklaces or elegant combinations. "I feel the strongest statements are made with the fewest words," she said.
Her jewelry is crafted from choices of naturally shaped amethysts, geodes and onyx that she places on silver or gold chains. You can find her wrapping, hammering, knitting, braiding, knotting or crocheting into and within the metals using classic techniques and at times her own unusual, ingenious system. It is her exceptional, exquisite craftsmanship that delights one even more. Barbara's attention to detail in every piece is amazing.
With prices that are amazingly affordable, Barbara Campbell Jewelry is in demand. No wonder her Brooklyn studio is a festival of handmade artistry. In just a few months Barbara will celebrate the first anniversary of her jewelry line.
This imaginative, talented young girl, who studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and who made her mark in the world of design, found more than she expected when she serendipitously purchased an oceanfront co-op in Montauk. She has found her second home here, as well as a real source of happiness through entrepreneurial success and sharing a vision she had while walking along the beach. It is a good thing she found that amazing Montauk stone. We are all very happy that she did, because the ladies of Montauk and the East End for that matter certainly love wearing Barbara's wonderful jewelry.
