What's in Store
A Preview of the latest Manhattan shops

by Faith Hope Consolo

Shops all across Manhattan are enjoying the arrival of autumn, as well-heeled shoppers return from their vacations with a renewed desire to expand their fall wardrobe. As the leaves start to change, so does the city's dynamic retail landscape. Designer devotees will love exploring every corner of the City, continually revising their personal collection of favorite shops. Join me on a preview of select neighborhoods and their impending transformations. There is an exciting new retail entry coming to every neighborhood, from jewelry and accessories to apparel and shoes. Happy Shopping!

SOHO: Grand Street is welcoming a host of new shops, as demand for retail in the desirable neighborhood grows. Menswear designer Andrew Buckler is opening his second Manhattan location at 93 Grand Street. Across the street, Hickey, the hip line from legendary suitmaker Hickey Freeman, will have its first freestanding shop. The long-awaited Vivienne Tam store will finally open at the corner of Grand and Mercer streets. Muji and CB2 will be just around the corner on Broadway. Jil Sander will have a triplex shop at 30 Howard Street, on the corner of Crosby Street. A Phillip Lim boutique debuted at 115 Mercer Street and Tse cashmere found a new home at 120 Wooster Street. Abercrombie & Fitch will open at 600 Broadway. French sportswear label Cotélac will be opening a third U.S. store on Greene Street, next to the soon-to-open Evisu denim boutique. Kate's Paperie has relocated to Spring Street, between Crosby and Lafayette, vacating space on Broadway now occupied by Spanish retail chain MNG by Mango.

THE MEATPACKING DISTRICT: Repetto handmade French shoes will open an outpost inside Earnest Sewn's denim store at 821 Washington Street. Flatiron District: Dutch denim giant G-Star opened at 873 Broadway, and Geox will be across the street at 862 Broadway. Free People will have its first Manhattan store on two levels at 79 Fifth Avenue.

THE WEST VILLAGE: John Bartlett's store will be at 143 Seventh Avenue South at Charles Street. 375 Bleecker Street will host Tommy Hilfiger's first store solely devoted to his women's collection-his last Manhattan store opened in 2001. Ralph Lauren may also take 383 Bleecker Street, adding to an already Lauren-glutted block of shops. Coach is also opening on Bleecker Street, and James Perse's men's store on Bleecker Street is finally open full-time.

NOLITA: Charlotte Ronson reopened her namesake store at 239 Mulberry Street.

CHELSEA: Marc Ecko Cut & Sew boutique will grace 147 Eighth Avenue. Gana Art Gallery, based in Seoul, South Korea, opened its first U.S. location at 210 11th Avenue.

THE UPPER WEST SIDE: Sephora opened at 2164 Broadway, and a second Manhattan Chico's opened at 2300 Broadway. Faith Hope Consolo, Chairman, Retail Leasing and Sales Division, Prudential Douglas Elliman
