Martha Stewart

Residents of Lily Pond Lane are used to insufferably slow traffic on their street, as Martha Stewart acolytes trawl the tree-lined block, rubbernecking as they pass by her famous green-trimmed, shingle-style home. It is, of course, surrounded by a garden worthy of her vaulted reputation in the domestic arts. Earlier this summer the house was struck by lightning. The bolt knocked off parts of the exterior molding and some shingles, zapped her sprinkler control panel, stereo system and electronic driveway gate. Something tells us she fixed it all herself-and filmed a segment on it for her Martha Stewart Show in the process. Of course, this home is not only a home these days, with a furniture line inspired by it, and countless photo shoots and video segments filmed there. But it doesn't stop there. Cloning has now entered the Martha Stewart Onmimedia repertoire with the Lily Pond Lane home (as well as her homes in Connecticut and Maine) spawning entire communities based on their template. In a joint venture between Martha and K2 Homes, Martha Stewart-sanctioned developments are now strewn across California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas, complete with her signature wainscoting, exterior molding and landscaping. So it appears the steady traffic on Lily Pond Lane confirms that Martha's East End manse is actually a model home in more than one sense of the term.
