Originally a professor at Stony Brook, Hovey first came out East while renovating her brownstone in Brooklyn and immediately fell in love with the area. In 1990 she took over the oldest privately owned agency on the East End. Now the President and sole owner of Mrs. Condie Lamb Agency, which was founded in 1963, Hovey delights in working a six-day week. She lives just off the epic, elm tree-lined Lily Pond Lane. In addition to running one of the most successful smaller firms in a market dominated by big corporations, transaction highlights include selling the last large parcel in the estate area of East Hampton Village as well as oceanfront property around the Maidstone Club and Old Village Hall. "The biggest new trend I see is the advent of technology. Buyers these days are armchair real estate experts, so we have to be even more informed. "We're down-to-earth brokers with a strong sense of community," says Hovey of her agency, which celebrates its 45th Anniversary this year. "There's more to real estate than just turning a key and opening a door. It's about remembering that the business is about people."
