Dining

Savanna's, 268 Elm Street, 631-283-0202, a longtime favorite out here, evokes the Roaring Twenties with a pillared pavillion and mirror-backed antique bar. It was recently purchased by restaurateur Joe Jurist, and the oven-roasted duckling is this summer's most popular dish. Chef Doug Gulija's innovative fare at The Plaza Café, 61 Hill Street, 631-283-9323, includes monkfish osso buco and seafood shepherd's pie. Try the omelette of the day or delve into an old standby like the filet mignon and shrimp and scallop risotto at 75 Main, 75 Main Street, 631-283-7575, which mixes French cuisine and Asian influences with a sophisticated wine list. You can sip on a margarita and tackle steamed lobster while overlooking the Peconic Marina at Coast Grill, 1109 Noyac Road, 631-283-2277, an unpretentious waterside restaurant known for its fresh seafood and boisterous crowd. After a stroll down Main Street, stop by Sant Ambroeus, 30 Main Street, 631-283-1233, for scoops of tangy passionfruit sorbet or lush hazelnut gelato. This coffee and gelati bar, once a hideaway for cognoscenti locals and Europeans, is perfect for people-watching over a panini. A few notable selections for dinner are the risotto with saffron and mushrooms and the veal scallopini. William Oster, executive chef at Tuscan House, 10 Windmill Lane, 631-287-8703, brings the true flavors of Italy to the Hamptons with authentic dishes such as osso buco-oven-roasted veal shank served in its own juice-and alla filetto di pomodoro with grilled polenta. The creamy white walls of red/bar Brasserie, 210 Hampton Road, 631-283-0704, showcase their clientele as much as the food, which melds homestyle cooking with an international twist. Another place for a good burger is The Driver's Seat, 62 Jobs Lane, 631-283-6606, a low-key pub/eatery that specializes in seafood and American comfort cuisine. Le Chef, 75 Jobs Lane, 631-283-8581, one of Southampton's oldest bistros, serves inventive dishes like noisettes of veal with crimini mushrooms, cognac and cream.
