HELTER SHELTER
Dear Dan,
Apropos your article two weeks ago
on Patricia Lynch being awarded $251,000 by a jury because the town
of Southampton allegedly violated her first amendment rights after
she criticized management of the town animal shelter.
The new shelter in Hampton Bays was
neither built, as your article suggested, after she left in 2004,
nor was it located in a site where a closer eye could be kept on
it. Who was to keep closer tabs on it?
Plans for the new shelter were in
play before the new millennium. I know because I interviewed shelter
supervisor Don Bambrick for an article. Shelter construction began
in 2000 and it opened in 2001.
An article printed last week said
that Ms. Lynch volunteered at the shelter from 2000 to February
2004 when Town Public Safety Administrator Cheryl Kraft terminated
her volunteer time.
Cordially.

ABANDON SHIP!
Dear Dan,
Republicans — grab your lifeboats!
Captain George W. Bush’s Ship of State is foundering on the
rocks and is headed for Davey Jones’ locker. Even bilge rats
have the instinct for self-preservation and will abandon a doomed
vessel. Those who keep trying to bail Bush out do so at their own
peril, they’ll go down with that sinking ship.

Isn’t he not just the captain,
but the commander in chief? –DR
DAN ADDICT
Dear Dan,
First, thanks for so many years of
Dan’s Papers! I moved here in 1992 and have read it ever since.
I came form Rochester and, at the time I left, there wasn’t
anything like Dan’s. I’ve been hooked ever since!
Enjoy your spring and summer and
I look forward to every issue.
