Romantic Fashion Tips for Valentine's Day

The history of romantic fashions began in 1825. Women wore fitted v-pointed bodices, beret sleeves (puffed rounded sleeves that sloped down at the shoulders) and inverted triangle bodices that exposed the chest, throat and shoulder area. Revealing a little skin was quite daring and uncomfortable for some at first, but it soon became part of their everyday dress.

Since that time, romantic fashions have transformed into sexy and flirtatious designs. Showing off a little skin today is not considered shocking at all. That is unless you left your bloomers at home, like Brittney Spears. Oops! Not very sexy, but I'm sure she won't do that again?

With Valentine's Day upon us, many ladies take this opportunity to wear the sexiest dress or blouse for a night out on the town with their romantic partner. Others may prefer a different approach and dress more outwardly conservative, only to reveal a sexy ensemble underneath for unveiling later in the evening.

Shopping around town is the way to go and the East End offers many options. Complements, located in both Bridgehampton and Southampton, is a favorite stop for many. This high-end lingerie boutique offers an array of elegant, sexy undergarments, with designs by La Perla, Hanky Panky and Cosabella (just to name a few.) When choosing the appropriate lingerie, the goal is to look tasteful.

However, anything goes on Valentines Day and it's the one day of the year some may decide to throw caution to the wind.

When it comes to achieving that true romantic look, Renaissance in Southampton will not disappoint. This elegant boutique carries something for everyone. From vintage-style jewelry and handbags to timeless dresses, blouses and shawls. If you want to find designs from the past that meet the present, your quest is over.

Another great find is Australian Femininity in Sag Harbor. Boasting beautiful dresses, flirtatious tops and accessories, this treasure chest is filled with an abundance of sparkling selections.

And, of course, Victoria's Secret is a reliable source for sexy lingerie and accessories. Why not add a touch of glitter? Lotions and body gels with a hint of sparkle will give that extra something special. There are an abundance of brands that include Victoria's line of assorted fragrant glittery lotions, as well as a few high-end lines available at Saks Fifth Avenue (Southampton).

Don't forget to pamper yourself from head-to-toe. Make an appointment for a pedicure, manicure, facial and waxing. There is nothing sexier than looking polished and radiant. Locally, a few good options include: Kevin Maple Salon (Southampton), Ananas (Southampton), Style Bar Day Spa (Sag Harbor), Naturopathica (East Hampton) and La Carezza (Southampton.) This is an important part of looking sexy and feeling good. Mind, body and spirit are key to looking and feeling confident.

Valentine's Day is different for everyone, and for those who just want to have fun, go out with a few friends and have a few laughs, remember to look your best. You never know who you might meet ... Questions or thoughts? Email fashiontimes@live.com
