BARE WEBSITE
Dear Dan,
I read Sabrina Mashburn’s article
about Ina Garten in the Feb 9th issue today (pg. 27). I like Ina
Garten, but my 83-year-old Mother is absolutely smitten with her.
Every July, when my parents make their annual visit, I spend at
least three days driving her up and down streets in East Hampton
as she tries to figure out which house is the site of the Barefoot
Contessa television program. My mother will not remember the address,
and it would save days of driving for me if you could tell me WHICH
website has her address in it. The article said the address was
on her website. It is not listed on the Barefoot Contessa site.
I am sorry to trouble you with this
ridiculous question. I will certainly take any oath re: not publishing
or otherwise revealing the information.
On a more interesting note, I am
thinking of renting my house this August, and will contact you re:
a website posting when I figure out how to price the rental. Is
there a site anywhere that has basic info re pricing for rentals?
(My house is on Three Mile Harbor Drive, across from the water,
ten minute walk from the Bay beaches, pool, AC, wireless internet,
A-frame with 3 bedrooms, hardwood floors, handicap access (ramp
to house and bathroom has safety bars, etc.); renovated basement
w/separate entrance (looks like the SoHo apt. I always wanted),
English garden, maid service, garbage pickup, etc.
Thank you for reading this email.

EEK AN EEL
Dear Dan,
OK...this may sound weird, but a
co-worker of mine swears that a few years back there was an interesting
story about an Ecuadorian eel on Long Island. She claims that a
person was attacked while walking on the ice and that a man having
his lunch saved them by throwing a mannequin at the eel.
I KNOW this sounds far-fetched, and
myself don’t believe it, but I HAD to find out if there was
such a story. I tried searching online to no avail. Please let me
know if this is fact or fiction.
Thank you.

HITTING A HIGH NOTE
Dear Dan,
I read the letter in last week’s
paper from Deirdre, asking about the whereabouts of Charles Bosselman.
I passed the request onto Barbara
Giancola of Opera of the Hamptons because Charles is a singer and
stage manager for them. She has passed it onto Charles so that he
can contact Deirdre if he wishes.
Best regards.

LAW AND ORDER
Dear Dan,
I appreciate the attention which
you brought to Legal Decisions……East Enders. We have
all been so patient with “the process” and are pleased
to see that you have noticed as well.
We also value the opportunity which
you afforded our son at Dan’s Papers.
Most sincerely.

SOUTH SHORE PRIDE
Dear Dan,
In Wednesday’s Newsday there
is an ad by Bethpage Federal Credit Union for a certificate for
a very good rat of 5.50% for $1,000-plus. The ad states that it
is open to “ALL” Long Islanders.” Well, it seems
that the people in Southampton and East Hampton are not considered
Long Islanders.
Their claim is that the State banking
laws do not let them offer their services to the South Shore. Upon
closer examination of the ad, if you happen to have a ten power
magnification glass, you can read the fine print and I quote: “Membership
is open to everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school
in Nassau County and Suffolk (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOUTHAMPTON,
EAST HAMPTON AND SHELTER ISLAND).
Since I am retired and really not
interested in going back to school, I guess I’ll have to join
another church in Riverhead.
If this is really caused by rules
by the State Banking Commission, I’m considering a discrimination
lawsuit against the State. Everyone now-a-days sues somebody so
I might as well try.
People of the South Shore unite.

CRACKED CASE
Dear Dan,
Dear Ms. Dolan,
December 18, 1944 – Typhoon
hit TF 38, three destroyers sunk, seven other ships damaged, 186
planes destroyed, nearly 800 men killed, page 247 Naval Academy
Illustrated History of the US Navy – E. B. Potler copyright
1971.
World Almanac Book of WWII –
ed. By Peter Young, C. 1981 page 313 – December 1944, TFR38
caught in violent typhoon – three destroyers sunk, damaged
three fleet carriers, four escort carriers, eleven destroyers.
Have you consulted Bull Halsey, E.B.
Potler, 1985, for any reference to this “classified typhoon”?
Ms. Donlon – this event was
surely a tragedy but not entirely unknown. I haven’t read
Mr. Clavin’s book, but the facts have not been hidden for
over sixty years.
Best regards.
