A GREAT IDEA
Dear Dan,
I’m one of your readers and
I’ve found out about something that might make a good news
story.
My Karate teacher read about the
girl in Long Island who was recently bullied and beat up by girls
in her school. Well, he got pretty worked up about it and started
teaching the students about bullying and hazing and what they can
do to avoid becoming a victim. But he wants to do more, not just
for his students, but for the community. So he’s going to
give a free class on bullying to any kids or parents who want to
learn about their options, and how to avoid contact with bullies,
and how to defend themselves in a pinch without seriously hurting
anybody. He’s going to start giving a free class every month
in the community’s interest and it should do a whole lot for
people who want to become more informed and better prepared.
I imagine this would be a good feature
for your paper to report on because it’s a pretty touching
story of a local hero doing his part to serve the East-End community.
Plus, from a newspaper perspective,
it’s a very hot issue on Long Island ever since that girl
was attacked, and nobody seems to be doing anything to make a difference.
If anyone thinks it’s a good
idea, please let me know and I can tell you more about it. Thanks
a lot. You guys always do a great job and it will be great to hear
back from you.

JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU
Dear Dan,
Dear David,
I was introduced to your fine periodical
about three years ago when I was visiting my aunt and uncle who
have a summer home (seems more like an all year round home) in New
Suffolk.
The first time I read your paper
I felt like I was reading a critique of the East End from an old
friend who dearly wanted me to know what a historically rich and
beautiful part of these United States, Long Island truly is.
Since then I have found myself more
and more traveling east bound on the 495 to sample the fine wines,
indulge in delicious seafood and to absorb the local culture. I
look forward to the restaurant reviews, local history and stories
on the idiosyncrasies of daily life. Often enough most people will
not take the time to acknowledge a fine product or a job well done,
I wanted to break that pattern and simply say “Keep up the
good work”. I look forward to colorful covers, clever editorials,
and monthly history lessons that keep me returning to the beautiful
North Fork.
Thank You.

DOG TALK
Dear Dan,
I wish to offer a correction to a
mistake written in this weeks Dan’s Papers for South of the
Highway section this week.
The Briard mentioned in the exhibition
of VOOM Portraits, by Robert Wilson currently in New York City was
incorrectly named. The dog whose portrait it is who lives locally
is Selene, not Chloe.
Thank you.

UNDERGROUND NEWS
Dear Dan,
I was fascinated by this story of
the discovery of a subway tunnel still intact throughout the Hamptons.
I must have mentioned the story (Dan’s Papers, July 7, 2006)
to about twenty-five people or more and they were as surprised as
I was. This must have been a great secret of everyone involved passed
on without keeping any records. To me, it really is mind boggling
that such a structure exists. I don’t believe there was anything
else written on the subject.
I’m wondering if there is any
other information you can share as far as plans to show the public
some sections or are there any plans for excavations and refurbishing?
Yours truly.

HELP FOR MY BOO BOO
Dear Dan,
Please let your healing reporter
Sabrina C. Mashburn know that she would be welcome to drop by my
Southampton Village Family Practice for care of her next injury.
She would not encounter any initial set welcoming fee of $150, and
our current charge for a simple tetanus shot is under $50, including
administration.
Other excellent alternatives for
her quest for care locally includes many other fine private medical
practices and walk-in clinics. A few more calls by her would have
surely paid off, saving her both time and money.
