Love On The Ice

by David Lion Rattiner
The Buckskill Winter Club off
of Stephen Hands Path in East Hampton is a romantic winter secret.
It is a little slice of winter heaven that is available to anyone,
seven days a week. The ice rink that they have there is available
for free-skate and you can rent a pair of ice skates for as low
as $10. This makes it a great place to bring a honey for a truly
special Valentine’s Day. Ice skating with her for the day
will make her feel special.
I was absolutely blown away by the
pleasant feel of this place. It embodies truly what home town, good,
clean fun is all about. The Buckskill is not a pretentious place,
nor is it the I-don’t-know-if-I’m-good-enough-to-be
here establishment, where you don’t know if you are wearing
the correct colored polo shirt. No, this place is about kids smiling,
ordering a cup of their fine Italian hot chocolate, sitting by the
fireplace after a day of skating, making jokes and maybe even some
new friends. It’s a really romantic setting for a perfect
day.
I went to the Buckskill Winter Club
with my friend Vicky, yes, just friend! I was expecting a large,
obtrusive rink, but it is quite the opposite. It’s a very
romantic setting. Especially for those that like to be outdoors
and physical. It is also a very friendly and welcoming place to
go to.
When you arrive, be sure to keep
the skating a surprise. Just tell your honey that you are on your
way to someplace special and be sure to tell them they are going
to need a winter hat. Once you pull into the club, you’ll
notice inside that there is a small desk where you can go to rent
skates. There is also a warm and romantic fireplace and couch where
you can lace up your skates and get ready to go. If you haven’t
skated in a while, an instructor who can teach you a thing or two
about ice-dancing is on staff to get you going. But you may just
want to hit the ice, after all, this is your day with that special
someone.
It has probably been five years since
I have gone ice-skating and when I hit the ice, it did not all come
back to me. I felt very shaky and Vicky did as well. But we had
almost the entire rink to ourselves, so I didn’t need to worry
about my lack of grace or getting embarrassed.
With a little work, Vicky and I finally
started to get going and the whole time we were ear-to-ear smiles.
“This is just so great isn’t it? I mean look at this,
it is amazing!”
We chatted with a couple that was
also skating and who shared similar big grins. I asked them what
they thought of it and they responded without hesitation, “It
is absolutely wonderful.”
If there is one thing that I noticed
about this place, it is the fact that it is like a story book. The
sounds of the skates slicing along the ice makes you think of romance
movies and it is impossible to not smile while you skate with your
honey holding their hand as you keep them from falling. Romance,
romance, romance. When the two of you have skated your Valentine’s
Day hearts out, you are going to want to get a cup of hot chocolate
inside. This is a great opportunity to give the gift that you have
been just dying to give to your sweetheart. But don’t forget
to grab the hot chocolate first. It is unbelievable there, they
get their chocolate directly from Italy.
Bringing your honey to a Valentine’s
Day of skating will truly be very special and you will get to know
what this new rink is all about and why it is a great place for
the community. It is a very special and neat thing to do and you
will remember the day forever. It is a place that is all about skating,
enjoying yourself and smiling. It is a real place with a lot to
offer your soul.
And it is that simple fun that makes
Buckskill Winter Club worth going to, especially on Valentine’s
Day, but also, it makes it important. Because it is that simple
fun that makes this area so special to us all.
