On warm sunny evenings last year, many visitors
and locals alike flocked to East Hampton Point to celebrate the
end of another wonderful summer’s day in the Hamptons and
perhaps ease wonderfully into the night scene. With its teak details,
many promenades and decks all hovering over the Three Mile Harbor,
many have toasted the setting sun in as a romantic setting as
there is in the Hamptons. Sipping fine wines or strong spirits,
the patrons appreciated what this establishment had to offer at
day’s end.
Very good news! Beautiful sunset meals and drinks will once again
be available at East Hampton Point, in East Hampton on Three Mile
Harbor Road. Despite reports that it was going to be sold and
become a private club, the posh establishment will once again
open its doors for the general public as East Hampton Point for
another season. The marina and hotel will also operate under the
same management as they did last year.
Long considered the gem of the various eating establishments along
the shore of beautiful Three Mile Harbor, summer patrons are ecstatic
at the prospect of once again planning to sip cocktails and eat
wonderful tasty dishes as the sun tucks its way under the horizon
ending another summer’s day. The stories of a fifty-plus
million dollar asking price and deals about to close were confirmed
by East Hampton Point’s General Manager, Caroline Carpinato.
In a phone interview, she said that all had fallen through and
everyone affiliated with the Point was getting ready to have the
best season ever. She would once again be looking to enjoy the
reggae music on Sunday evenings and the weekend brunches.
The hotel at The Point offers wonderful, private accommodations
for families and individuals with a beautiful tennis court, children’s
playground, health spa and great views. The indoor and outdoor
bars gives one an option where to enjoy a cocktail. In the indoor
bar rests a magnificent mahogany yacht, its mast rising 35 feet.
Once owned by Ann Mooney’s father in Oyster Bay, Ann, who
still races all over the world, now tries to get to the Point
at least once a summer to look at her father’s pride.
The outdoor side bar is more relaxed and is where the reggae music
and dancing happen on Sunday evenings. One can sometimes hear
the strong bass lines bouncing off the decks out to the waters
on those magic Sunday nights with everybody swaying one way or
another to the music.
East Hampton Point has a very colorful history. In 1993, Wings
Point, owned by a Mr. Wilson, was purchased, remodeled and opened
as The East Hampton Point Inn. The restaurant can seat up to 400
people and is often used for summer weddings and gala events.
No longer in the hands of the all of the original investors, due
to a splitting up of the ownership of various Hamptons restaurants,
the Point has maintained its dignity. The huge beautiful yachts
that moor there or visit there are attraction in their own right.
It is almost a ritual for a first time visitor to East Hampton
to see the sun set from the Point. It is also a great place to
meet new friends or catch up with old ones.
