POLAR BEAR PLUNGE - 1/1 - Gurney's Annual Polar Bear Dip. Crowd meets 10:30 a.m. at Gurney's Spa lobby. All enter Sauna and Roman Bath to bring body up to higher temperature and then all run together into the ocean. Donations of $10 per person is suggested to support the 'Mission of Kindness' which is helping terminally ill children. Anyone is welcome to watch! BARCELONA PLUS (7 miles) - 12/20 - 10 a.m. Ramble through white pine and hard wood forest. Amble past a tupelo swamp. Then hike a challenging path along the eighty foot bluff and a pebbly bay beach for unique views of Northwest Harbor, Cedar Point, Shelter Island and Sag Harbor. Walk a seldom used spur to the southernmost end of Northwest Creek. Meet at the intersection of Swamp Rd. and Edwards Hole Rd. Leader: Richard Poveromo 631-283-4591, or hike day 917-584-7280.

BIG WOODS TO LAUREL VALLEY - 10 (miles) Paumanok Path visits some of The most beautiful natural places in eastern Southampton. We will hike from Big Woods in North Sea to Laurel Valley in Noyac. Bring water and food. Meet on Deerfield Rd and Deerwood Path Rd at the Laurel Valley Trailhead. Take Noyac Rd. bear left onto Deerfield Rd. for .9 miles to Deerwood Path that leads into Northside Hills, trailhead is on the opposite side of the road. Leader: Ken Kindler 631-563-4354.

NORTHWEST PINES/SHORTSHANKS- 2.5 miles) This walk maybe short on distance but it is long on interesting things to see and hear, including Benjamin Hubbard's lone grave, two holes of water and Chatfield Hole. The pace will be leisurely on this basically flat trail through an exquisite forest. Meet at the intersection of Bull Path and Swamp Rd. Leader: Richard Lupoletti 631-324-1127.

LONG POND- Long Pond Greenbelt. 10AM-Noon. Meet at Mashashimuet Park, Sag Harbor. 5 miles with many pond views. Bob Wolfram, 631-725-4237

HITHER WOODS (6-7 miles) We'll hike the Paumanok Path from Napeague Harbor Rd. and then return via the hilly Serpent's Back Trail. Beautiful woods and stunning water views abound. MONEY POND LOOP- (3-4 miles) Learn how Money Pond got its name and then hike to Montauk Lighthouse and to Turtle Cove for spectacular views of the ocean. We will loop back through Camp Hero. HITHER WOODS 20TH ANNIVERSARY NEW YEARS HIKE - (12 miles) Your fearless leader has led a New Year's Weekend hike in Hither Woods for twenty years running. Why? Come along and find out.
