FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23

AUDITIONS- Auditions for the fourth annual variety show will be held today and on November 27 at 7 p.m. at the North Fork Community Theater. Bring your song, dance, instrument or magic trick. Showdates are January 4 and 5. For more information call 631-298-8656.

CHRISTMAS SHOP- 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oysterponds Historical Society's annual Beach Plum Christmas Shop in Janet T. Swanson Gallery, Old Point School House, Village Lane, Orient opens for holiday season. Shop features hostess and teacher gifts, small thank-you gifts, ornaments, stocking stuffers, household and seasonal decorations and more. Open Friday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. through Dec. 23. CANDLELIGHT TOUR- 3-6 p.m. check out the Annual Candlelight Tour and Tree Lighting at Southold Historical Society's Maple Lane Museum complex features visits with Santa in old Pine Neck Barn, historic buildings decorated for holidays, guides in period costumes, demonstrations of traditional holiday craftmaking including embroidery, rug hooking and knitting, children making custom ornaments, strolling musicians and Southold High School Chorus singing holiday music. ONGOING EVENTS

HELPING THE NEEDY- There are hundreds of hungry families on Long Island's North Fork this winter. Throughout November, customers and friends of Mattituck's Old Mill Inn restaurant will receive a complimentary appetizer when they drop off a canned good at the restaurant. All food collected will be donated to the North Fork Parish Outreach, a leading organization serving special needs of individuals and families on the North Fork. The Old Mill Inn is located at 5775 West Mill Road in Mattituck in the heart of the North Fork's wine country.
