LIRRARGHHHH

Dear Dan,
Well you had to figure it would happen, the LIRR added trains that don't address the commuting situation. I live in East Moriches and was elated to find out that I wouldn't have to sit in traffic daily. The feeling faded quickly once I saw the actual schedule. There is a 6:11 train that arrives at Bridgehampton at 6:56, a clear two hours before my work day begins, another train that runs from 8:32 arriving Bridgehampton 9:06. Okay, I could deal with that one, after all sitting in traffic, sometimes I don't arrive at the office until 9:30 - 9:45. But the westbound offerings are TERRIBLE! The LIRR in has added ONE train that leaves Montauk at 4:22. It passes through Bridgehampton at 4:55. Does anyone work 9 to 5? My option if I were to miss that train is to head home at 11:15 pm.
The LIRR added two trains headed westbound during mid day (a 7:26 am from East Hampton, and a 12:28 from Montauk) whom does that serve? I sit in traffic daily with thousands of people from 8am through 10am EASTBOUND, and then from 5 p.m. through 7 p.m. WESTBOUND. Did the LIRR do a study? I should have figured it would have been just a dream to have a MASS transit system that would alleviate traffic to the MASS. Good job LIRR!
Keep up the good work, addressing the concerns of your riders. I am sure we wont hear a word of this until next May when the LIRR announces that they are discontinuing service due to low numbers of travelers. We had the chance to do something really good for the east end. Figures we would mess it up, I mean this IS Long Island.

A DUCK DRESSING

Dear Dan,
I hope you have recovered from the horrid experience in the woods behind the ducks behind!
So, now onto the next...NO DUCK update this week? What gives?
I am sitting here with Robert and we have the next duck caper! The DUCK needs a babushka! Perfect, right?
Now the only problems are:
1. What color?
2. Size?
3. Frontwards or backwards (backwards)?
4. Pattern?
5. By day or eve?
6. Private or Public?
7. Quack.
8. When, how, who?
9. We know where?
10. Who pays the bill/bail?
Duck, Duck?

Regards,
Maude Davis

MUCHO MEDIA

Dear Dan,
For those who cherish freedom of speech and competition in the battle of ideas, FOX News channel joining CNN, CNBC and many other providers of business news coverage is great. In print media, besides Barons and the Wall Street Journal, national editions of USA Today and the New York Times have their own business sections. Besides our own Dan's Papers, AM New York and Metro New York, the New York Daily News, New York Post, Newsday, Staten Island Advance and New York Sun all contain from a page or two up to a full section of financial news. More people turn to all news radio, national network news such as ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS along with their local and independent news broadcasts such as FOX 5, MY9 & WB11 along with cable new stations such as News Twelve, CNBC, CNN, FOX, BBC and the Internet for late breaking business news which can become stale by the time it reaches print the next day. A growing population of new immigrants support their own newspapers, radio and television stations which also cover financial news.
Don't forget business news weekly magazines such as Crain's New York along with Business Week, Forbes and Fortune.
How fortunate we are to be living in one of the few remaining free societies, with a wealth of information sources available for any citizen to access
In the marketplace of ideas, let us hope there continues to be room for everyone including the FOX Business News channel.

Sincerely,
Larry Penner

COVER ART

Dear Dan,
The covers on Dan's Papers are ALWAYS the best. They evoke feeling from an artistic standpoint and they depict our local flavor so wonderfully. You really should compile them in some form - as a magazine or coffee table book. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to have a collection of these beautiful covers.

Thank you.

HEREOS

Dear Dan,
I am writing in response to your article on local memorialized residents, which appeared in the October 26th issue of Dan's Papers. Although, your efforts to preserve the actions of our East End Heroes is appreciated, Vinny Danz a son of Southampton is probably spinning in his grave when erroneously addressed as a New York City Firefighter. Vincent Danz was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and a member of the elite Emergency Service Unit of the New York City Police Department when he responded to the World Trade Center and made the ultimate sacrifice. His family and friends were so proud to rename his favorite Southampton Beach, Road D in his honor. The actual street sign, explicitly pictured above your article reads: VINNY DANZ RD. NYPD 9-11-01.
