Take Five 2007 with Jan Silver
This weekend before Thanksgiving brings a variety of good music and independent films plus several interesting speakers to the South Fork. Blues and rock master Joe Bonamassa plays at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center tonight, and the Hamptons Chamber Orchestra plays in Southampton. Bay Street Theatre has a new-play reading Saturday afternoon. The Picture Show at Bay Street Theatre has a Steven Spielberg features weekend with Poltergeist tonight and E.T. tomorrow night. Sag Harbor's John Jermain Library shows the critically-acclaimed animated feature Ratatouille tonight and the Performing Arts Center has special films on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday afternoon is busy. There's a cabaret show with a Latin beat in Sag Harbor at 2 p.m., and a piano concert at the Southampton library at 3 p.m. The Southampton Historical Museum has a community festival in the afternoon, the Parrish Art Museum has a family fun afternoon, and Kate Millard talks about the history of Islam in Bridgehampton at 5 p.m. For details on all of the above, read on.
THEATER
Bay Street Theatre's "Tea at Three" new-play reading this Saturday is Faces and Furies by Carey Lovelace, directed by William Burford. There is no admission charge to the 3 p.m. reading in the Sag Harbor playhouse.
MUSIC
Singer/songwriter Joe Bonamassa, known as a skilled blues and rock guitarist, is at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center tonight at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30-50 and can be purchased online at www.whbpac.org or by calling the box office at (631) 288-1500.
The Hamptons Chamber Orchestra gives a concert tonight, 7 p.m., in the Levitas Center for the Arts, Southampton Cultural Center (2 Pond Lane, across from Agawam Park). Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students at the door or call (631) 287-4377.
On Sunday at 2 p.m., singer Yvette Malavet-Blum will perform her show "Latin Rhythm," a combination of Caribbean jazz and contemporary Spanish songs set to a Latin beat, at the John Jermain Public Library, Sag Harbor (free admission).
Dr. Allan Blumenthal will give a piano recital at Southampton's Rogers Memorial Library on Sunday at 3 p.m., courtesy of Friends of the library. There is no admission charge and a reception follows the program.

Sag Harbor's library screens the well-received animated feature Ratatouille (2007) tonight at 6:30 p.m. Arrive by 6:15 for a choice of seats (free admission).
The Picture Show at Bay Street Theatre, Sag Harbor, celebrates Steven Spielberg's 25th filmmaking anniversary by screening Poltergeist (1982, with Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams) tonight and E.T., The Extra Terrestrial (1982, with Drew Barrymore and Henry Thomas) tomorrow evening. Both start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door half an hour before showtime, and there is a dinner/movie package with The American Hotel for $24.95 (call 631-725-3535 for reservations).
Dan's Papers "They Made the Movie Here" series shows The Dain Curse (1978, with James Coburn and Hector Elizondo) at 3 p.m. in the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center (free). It's a Dashiel Hammett mystery partly shot on Shelter Island. Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon at PAC, the "cockeyed comedy" King of California (2007 with Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood) is the World Cinema feature. Tickets are $10 adults, $7 for seniors and students (call 631-288-1500 for screening times).
SPEAKERS
Barbara Wersba read from a new Christmas story, "Penny Parade," on Saturday, 6 p.m., at Canio's Books, Sag Harbor. On Sunday at 5 p.m., Kate Millard will speak about the history of Islam at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Main St., Bridgehampton. There is no admission charge for either of these programs.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Everyone is welcome at two Southampton programs on Sunday afternoon. The Historical Museum on Meetinghouse Lane hosts a community festival called "Our Town Traditions" from 1 to 4 p.m. (free admission). The Parrish Art Museum has a family fun day with hands-on art supervised by the current exhibit artists Alan Shields and Almond Zigmund. Admission is free to Museum members, $5 for non-members, and the program runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
