The Statue Caper
A man who owns a home on Dune Road in Hampton Bays told police that
someone stole two statues, worth a combined $6,000, from the front
steps of his home. Police have ruled out the possibility of the
statues coming to life and walking off.

More Damaged Mailboxes?
Out in Montauk, police get calls nearly every week because of smashed
mailboxes. Last week, police found damaged mailboxes on West Lake
Drive, Greenwich Street, Fairview Avenue, and Granada Place. Some
residents now have booby-trapped their mailboxes so that they will
explode with fox urine should they be struck. Other residents have
set up digital video cameras to monitor their mailboxes because
of the rash of mailbox assaults.

Drive-by
A man in Amagansett reported that somebody drove by the ballfield
that he was playing at in a white truck. The window of the truck
was then rolled down and somebody from inside of the truck fired
two shots from a B.B. gun at the field. The man then called police
to report the incident. This is the Hamptons version of a drive-by
shooting.

A Ninja?
Riverhead police are on the hunt for a man in a ninja costume carrying
a sword. No joke. A guy who dressed up like a ninja over Halloween
had a real ninja sword that he brought to a party which was attended
by about 300 people. A melée broke out at the party and a
man from Farmingdale was seriously cut by the sword. The guy that
was injured came up from behind the ninja when the injury occurred
because he was afraid that the ninja was going to hurt somebody.
Police are unsure if the assault was intentional or not, but are
on the look out for the ninja man and would like to talk with him.
If you have some information on this incident you can call (631)
727-4500.

Hunting The Hunter
There were three separate calls last week in Shelter Island reporting
that a hunter was hunting on private property. When each call was
investigated, it was determined that the hunter had permission from
the property owners to hunt. Following the complaints that hunters
were hunting without permission, which were determined to be legally
on the property, a hunter reported that a tree stand was stolen.
Hmmmm.

Small Town…
Both Republican and Democratic candidates have reported that their
campaign signs have been stolen from various road locations. In
one incident, a candidate’s family was posting signs around
town in Southampton when they saw a guy pull up in a truck, get
out of the truck, and steal a sign. The candidate chased the guy
in the truck and caught up with him. He noticed that there were
a bunch of signs piled up in the back. The driver sped away and
has yet to be identified. Talk about small town politics!
