South O' the Highway (and the North too)

The Second Annual Birdhouse Auction on October 21 will benefit the South Fork Breast Health Coalition and feature birdhouses created by prominent artists, celebrities, politicians and survivors. East Hampton's Renee Zellweger is this year's Honorary Chairperson. It takes place at the Parrish Hall of Southampton Hospital on Herrick Road. Call 631-726-8606. British soccer star David Beckham and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, are planning to move their family to America. They looked in Los Angeles this past July, and now they are looking for a base in the Hamptons, a project which includes scoping out schools in our area for their three sons. Victoria is currently working with the former Spice Girls' manager Simon Fuller on a fashion reality series.

Southampton party girl Paris Hilton's arraignment on drunk driving charges has been postponed to December 5 at the request of her attorney. If she is convicted, the heiress could be sentenced to six months in jail, fined $1,000 and sent to a rehabilitation program

East Hampton's Martha Stewart has requested an unexpected guest to her show: Eminem. Stewart claims her demographic audience is very interested in the rapper and she said her crew enjoyed playing his music on breaks of her "Martha TV" show to liven things up.

Four years after purchasing his estate with views of Oyster Bay Harbor, Hamptonite Billy Joel has listed his place for sale with a prominent real estate firm. He paid $22.5 million in 2005 and the asking price this time around is $37.5 Million. Joel will keep his Sag Harbor residence.

The caterer of a 2005 New York University fundraiser in the Hamptons claims he was stiffed by the school and the East End's glitterati who participated in the charity event. Donald Torr claims he provided caviar and top shelf booze at the event hosted by Russian heiress Anna Anisimova and attended by Ahmad Rashad and Samantha Cole, among others. He is suing for $26,000 and has also filed a criminal complaint against publicist Jeffrey Goldstein in East Hampton Township for theft of service.

Plum TV Host Alison Chace covered the Bridgehampton Vintage SportsCar Road Rally last Saturday, September 30. Among others, she interviewed Rally Master and Event Organizer Jim Shelly, of the Bridgehampton Historical Society. The rally was a huge success, and included over 35 Vintage Cars built prior to 1960. The route was 130 miles through the beautiful back roads from Bridgehampton to Montauk. The day ended with a White Tent party with prizes, food, refreshments and a Swing band.

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has announced their first annual Long Island Music Hall of Fame Induction Awards Gala. The event will be held at the Patchogue Theater on Sunday October 15th. Artists scheduled to be inducted and possibly perform include Hamptonite Billy Joel, Twisted Sister, Little Anthony, Members of the Stray Cats, Leslie West, Mose Allison, Peter Kriss of Kiss, the Long Island Philharmonic, Vanilla Fudge, Jen Chapin of the Harry Chapin family of Sag Harbor, and producer George "Shadow" Morton. Other inductees this year are Sam Ash, Sr. Perry Como, John Coltrane, Run-DMC, Cindy Lauper, Neil Sedeka, Sam Taylor, Edward Forehand, Richie Havens and Tony Bennett. Presenters to appear include Hamptonite Alec Baldwin, Roger Earle and Jimmy Webb, among others. There will be a red carpet arrival at 5 p.m. and the Induction Awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. After a VIP dinner, the inducted artists will take to the stage for an All Star Jam Session. Dr. Alexander Covey has received congratulations from friends and colleagues for having been selected by the Castle Connolly Guide 2006 as one of the "Top Doctors in New York" based on an extensive survey of over 12,000 doctors and hospital leaders. This is the fourth consecutive year he has received this prestigious award. Dr. Covey is the director of East End Laser Care with offices located in Southampton, Center Moriches, and Manhattan and specializes in cosmetic and laser surgery.

Those concerned about the fate of the Thomas Moran House attended a tour of the property and barbecue last Saturday evening to raise money for a Trust. Peter Wolf, who is leading the effort to get this non-profit going, has assembled a committee of art historians, curators, corporate lawyers, historians, architects and others. Some include Marshall Allan, Annette Blaugrund, Phyllis Braff, Rebecca Chapman, Sarah Gold, John v.H. Halsey, Steven Kossak, Karen LaGatta, Deborah MacFarlane, Stephen May, Jacquelin Robertson, Coke Ann and Jarvis Wilcox.

In 2005, Philip DeFilippo released a video of church secretary Laura DeFilippo, his wife, and Monsignor Eugene Clark leaving the White Sands Motel in Napeague, which sparked a very public church scandal. Last week, DeFilippo agreed to drop charges of adultery from his pending divorce in Westchester Court so it seems the former rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan is off the hook. Instead, the couple is divorcing on the grounds that Laura refused to have sex with her husband for over a year.

Martha Stewart, of East Hampton, has just signed a big deal with Lowe's to carry her new home paint line, "Martha Stewart Colors." This new line will offer 350 hues. Martha Stewart also has her paint line "Everyday Colors" at K Mart.

Evidence Dance Company's 3rd Annual On Our Toes in the Hamptons benefit drew 400 guests to Nova's Ark in Bridgehampton. On hand to applaud the dynamic troupe, founded by Ronald K. Brown, were Susan L. Taylor and Khephra Burns, Gayle Perkins Atkins, Charles Atkins, Judge Bernard and Joyce Jackson, Loida Nicolas Lewis, Reginald Van Lee, Earl and Virginia Arrington, Larry and Olga Dais, Thelma Golden, Debra L. Lee, Neil Lowe. Bonnie Cannon was also there, Southampton's first African American trustee, who sang in the choir of local church members during the performance.
The company's winter gala will be on January 29 and chair Lowery Stokes Sims is planning the event. President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary R. Clinton will be honorary chairpersons.

Get out your kilts! The North Fork's Alan Bain, president of the American-Scottish Foundation, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, announced that the foundation will present its highest honor, the Wallace Award, to Euan Baird, former chairman and CEO of Schlumberger Ltd. Hamptonite and philanthropist Eleanor Tiffner and Mrs. Stanley De Forest Scott are the co-chairs of the 50th Anniversary and Wallace Award Dinner to be held October 23 at The University Club. On November 5th from4 to 9 p.m., there will be a fundraiser at the American Legion Hall in Amagansett for six year old Korinne McCarthy. She has been diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. All money raised will go towards her treatment. The evening will include a raffle, prizes, live music and a DJ.
