Girls Day Out
Last Saturday, Shecky's held their first Girls Day Out in the Hamptons, promising guests five hours of shopping bliss. I knew Shecky's Media, Inc. had frequently hosted fashion, beauty and nightlife events across the country, including many parties and events in Manhattan, but never on the East End, so I had to check it out. And it just so happened that my friend Gayle and I were in desperate need of a "girls day out," so we headed down to the Southampton Historical Museum for a few hours of shopping, cocktails and beauty.
We arrived around 2 p.m. and the place was packed. We were pleasantly greeted by the Shecky's staff and given a ticket for a deluxe goodie bag. The goodies included items such as Skin Milk Anti-Bacterial Hand Wash, Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer, Redken Headplay Working Spray and Extra Strength Finishing Spray, a CD by recording artist Ellee Ven, a clothing hanger provided by The Great American Hanger Company, a bracelet made by www.trendsrus.com, a coupon for a free ride on the Hampton Luxury Liner, hair accessories by IM Active, three easy reads perfect for the beach - Fireworks, The Virgin of Small Plains and School of Fortune and the spring/summer 2007 issue of New Beauty Magazine. Not a bad start.
As we continued through the premises, music played over the loudspeakers and women of all ages browsed the vendors. There were mothers and daughters, sisters, friends and some women who went solo, but everyone seemed to be having a great time - and most had a cocktail in hand, as there were stations serving Midori, Little Black Dress Wines, Korbel Champagne, Bacardi Mojitos and Bud Light.

Our first stop was at the Trends R Us table. I picked up a cute turquoise charm bracelet and Gayle purchased a black and gold cuff bracelet. Right away Gayle spotted the Babyliss Pro station. Her hair had been unruly all day so she was thrilled to have it straightened by a professional. The Nano Titanium hair straightener did not disappoint, as it left Gayle's hair silky, smooth and under control.
There were over 50 vendors offering everything from jewelry, clothing and handbags to artwork and information on laser hair removal. There was truly something for everyone. Our other purchases that day included shirts from an up and coming company called Positive Energy, which uses the phonetic spelling of phrases on its products. I chose the "haepi auer" (happy hour) shirt and Gayle opted for graetitud (gratitude). Both are cute, lightweight and fun. We also bought versatile scarves that can be worn on the head, around the waist and various other ways from Ashley Sharpe (www.ashleysharpe.com). We also enjoyed stopping by the Lana Santorelli Gallery table to check out the beautiful artwork they had displayed.
For the shoppers who needed a break, there were tents and tables set up where guests could relax, chat with friends or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful day.
The shopping event was such a hit that Shecky's is already planning a 2008 Girls Day Out in the Hamptons. Sheckys.com also offers information on hot new trends and products, nightlife, beauty and fashion blogs and last year Shecky's even opened a boutique on the Lower East Side. If you want to indulge and can't wait for next summer's Hamptons event, take your friends to Girls Night Out in NYC on October 8 - an event that guarantees to be your best girl's night out of the season.
Shecky's Media, Inc. is located at 678 Broadway, 4th floor in NYC. For more information call (212) 242-2566 or visit www.sheckys.com.
