Urban Zen
4 Bay Street, Sag Harbor
631-725-6176
www.urbanzen.org

One of my favorite designers, Donna Karan, has brought Urban Zen to my favorite town, Sag Harbor. The store, a lifestyle brand that balances philanthropy and commerce, is a new expression of retail, which was created with the purpose of supporting the Urban Zen Foundation and a percentage of the stores proceeds will benefit the foundation. The store is meant to be a destination where these things can come together, an atmosphere where fashion, photography, art, children's clothes and books create a holistic retail environment. From the moment you walk in the door, the scent of essential oils supports a state of well-being. There is an ambiance created by artisans, whose craft and artwork is on display along with the work of artists from around the world, from jewelry to sculpture to handcrafted furniture. "It's about connecting people, and sharing and inspiring, how we can make a difference," said Karan. This new addition also carries the Urban Zen label, a line of clothes designed by Donna Karan that promote ease, comfort, sensuality and simplicity. "The summer collection is filled with wispy airy whites and the coral and blues of the beach, soothing colors and fabrics designed with ease in mind, layer-upon-layer of sustainable, recycled, washed, cashmere, cottons and linens that become an extension of you." Sag Harbor is a natural fit for Donna Karan. It is where her spiritual journey began, and has long been home for her and her family. Welcome Urban Zen.
