Books to Cook By

There are new cookbooks in town that won't just sit on your shelf.

The Silver Palate Cookbook by Sag Harbor residents Julee Rosso & Sheila Lukins is now available in a 25th Anniversary edition, that includes color photographs along with the original text. This cookbook offers a wide range of recipes and co-author Sheila Lukins will give a cooking demo followed by a book signing on June 30 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Loaves and Fishes Cookshop, located at 2422 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. The Arab Table: Recipes and Culinary Traditions by May S. Bsisu focuses intimately on the cuisine, traditions and customs of Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. The author lived and cooked in several of these countries and includes recipes collected from her family, friends and neighbors. This cookbook is available at Loaves and Fishes Cookshop, Bridgehampton.

The Glory of Southern Cooking by former food and wine editor of Town and Country Magazine and East Hampton resident James Villas includes a collection of culinary favorites from the Southern states ranging from classic dishes to lesser-known dishes. The author will give a cooking demo followed by a book signing on July 21 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Loaves and Fishes Cookshop, Bridgehampton.

Life is Meals by husband and wife team and Bridgehampton residents James and Kay Salter is a delightful collection of brief essays, tips, recipes and illustrations broken down into 365 entries. This charming memoir of sorts is available at East End Books, located at 53 The Circle in East Hampton. Call 631-324-8680 for more information.

Gourmet Shops of NY: Markets, Foods, Recipes by Susan Meisel & Nathalie Sann explores the five boroughs to bring us a list of the best international markets, bakeries, patisseries, spice vendors, fish-mongers, cheese shops, butcher's shops, restaurants and more. This useful resource also includes 60 recipes and hundreds of beautiful color photos. There will be a reception for the authors on June 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at East End Books located at 53 The Circle in East Hampton. The authors will also give a cooking demo followed by a book signing on July 7 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Loaves and Fishes Cookshop, Bridgehampton.
