Whispers
"Old School Hamptons"
By Gina Glickman
The twenty-year-old landmark club, which anchored the infamous "Tavern" sign in Southampton on Tuckahoe Lane, is visible off of Montauk Highway and now reads, "Stereo By The Shore." Club financiers Michael Satsky and Barry Mullineaux are the proud owners of SBTS and poured more than one million dollars into club renovations. "The Old Tavern didn't have palm trees, so I had to bring in thirty palms. The ceilings were raised, the walls were knocked down, the colors changed, the outside cabanas are different, and nothing is really the same," shared Satsky. Now, you may find some of the same crowd from Stereo's Manhattan club, but SBTS has a mission according to Satsky, "We intend to bring back the old Hamptons. New York City, young Hollywood, it's that formula."

Satsky revealed his take on old school Hamptons, "The Hampton veterans, people that have houses here, have always had houses here, and don't go out unless it's a good reason, I personally know them, they're recognizable by name and face and when they're in a room everybody recognizes, and that's really what's happening here."
On opening weekend, Saturday night the VIP area was literally overflowing with Victoria's Secret Supermodels including Alessandra Ambrosio, who was celebrating Ana Beatriz Barios and Fernanda Motta's Birthdays. Across the VIP room, self-proclaimed "Queen of all Media," Perez Hilton was lounging in a banquette, just waiting for a drop of celebrity gossip, "I love celebrities, because they're crazy," he snarled. Hilton's website receives more than 5 million hits a day, and has become a credible news source for entertainment shows worldwide. Hilton revealed to me what happens when he actually comes face to face with celebrities that he has literally scribbled on.

Perez laughed, "I run!" How does Perez sleep at night? "The most important thing for me is I don't care, I don't care what anybody thinks, I don't care what anybody says. I just have fun." Hilton's message to celebrity prey, "I'm never wrong. Don't read my website if you don't like the truth, you can't handle it." Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck of Command PR were hard at work entertaining the models and making sure VIPs were taken care of, including Samantha Cole and Anna Anisimova, who giggled, "Believe it or not, I am wearing Victoria's Secret underwear!" Outside, Bobby Brown rolled up with his entourage and posed for pictures with his new girlfriend, Alicia Etheridge. Why did Bobby choose SBTS? "They invited me, I'm not one to really think about where I go, I just go, if there's a party, I'm going." According to Brown, he's gearing up to star in a new TV show, "It's a reality sketch comedy, and it's very funny. I'm creating characters for this show. I get a chance to do a lot of characters and be a lot of people."
Brown is trying to make a career comeback after his tumultuous 14 year long marriage with Whitney Houston ended in September of 2006. Aside from Bobby's TV show, which he insisted is not based on his life, Bobby is focused on touring a new album. And as for his relationship with Whitney? Brown told me, "Well me and Whitney, were humorous, we're friends, we have a daughter together, so that's why we take care of her together. We take care of her and that's the way it goes."
This past Saturday, SBTS was just as entertaining. British artist and superstar Lily Allen arrived with DJ Mark Ronson. At 2 a.m., Allen and her entourage took the stage and performed their hit song "Smile" for several VIP's including Tinsley Mortimer and Lizzie Grubman. This coming Saturday, model and socialite Lydia Hearst is scheduled to launch her Puma handbag line. If you're wondering how to partake in the festivities, Satsky's has a tip, "Get comfortable with somebody within the SBTS family, because it's a family environment here and that's how you get through the doors.
Until next week-- Life is short, you only live once, so party on!
