Singer Billy Joel is buying Actor Roy Scheider's oceanfront house in Sagaponack. It's quite a downsize for Joel and his wife, because his current house, which is not out here at all, but eighty miles away in Centre Island, is an old WASP estate of about 9,000 square feet. Scheider's house is about 2,500 square feet. The Center Island property is currently for sale for $32.5 million, if you're interested. The Scheider house was sold to Joel for about half that. And Roy and Brenda Scheider are not moving away. They've bought a small whaler's house in Sag Harbor, inland, which they are restoring and hope to be able to occupy in August. Meanwhile, they are upstairs at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor
