Memorial for Lynn Barnett, 68

Lynn Barnett, of NYC and Southampton, lost her battle with lung cancer on May 4, 2009. She died at home surrounded by friends.

Born December 29, 1940 and raised in Manhattan, Barnett was a great lover of music, film and theater. She sat on the Board of Directors of The Gerder Lissner Foundation, which provides financial support to young opera singers. Barnett studied classical voice before moving to Paris in her early 20s where she attended La Sorbonne, then worked for Coco Chanel as a PR assistant and translator in the late '60s. She returned to the states fluent in French and with a passion for fine cuisine and cooking. In the early '90s, she opened her company, New Leaf Catering, in East Hampton, and was a private chef for many years.

A devoted friend of Bill W's for 30 years, Barnett positively influenced the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of people. She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, keen sense of humor, knack for bringing people together, and "mean" guacamole.

She's survived by her (what else) French poodle, Torrie. A memorial service will be held at the Wainscott Chapel, Saturday, May 30, 2-5 p.m.
