No Surgery Required for New Beauty Treatments

In the last decade, there have been many developments in the area of skin care procedures and products for those looking to turn back the clock. And now, the Fraxel™ line of lasers has a new one: the Fraxel re:pair™ Laser System. Many feel that this addition to the company's line of lasers can create dramatic results by resurfacing and tightening the skin without the prolonged downtime and side effects associated with conventional, fully ablative resurfacing lasers and surgical procedures.

This new groundbreaking laser treatment, released in early 2008 and recently seen on the NBC's "Today Show," is the first fractionated CO2 laser to receive FDA clearance for skin resurfacing and the treatment of wrinkles, textural irregularities and pigmentation.

"This is without a doubt the biggest breakthrough in wrinkle removal and skin tightening in the last five to 10 years, and will revolutionize the way we treat aging skin," said Alexander J. Covey, M.D., author of Forget the Knife: A Complete Guide to Cosmetic Rejuvenation Without Surgery. "Results of a Fraxel re:pair treatment approach the skin tightening results of a surgical face lift, but with fewer side effects and less downtime.

"Fraxel re:pair is not out to replace the surgical face lift, but to get to you before you ever need one," Covey added. "It may be possible now that if you treat wrinkles and loose skin with Fraxel re:pair when patients are 40 or 50 years old, they may never get the saggy skin later."

Covey is the first physician on Long Island to offer the Fraxel re:pair laser to his patients, and it is quickly becoming the procedure of choice for sagging skin on the face and neck, age-related deep lines, hard-to-erase lip lines and more pronounced photo-damage on the face, neck, chest and hands.

Just as with the original Fraxel re:store™ laser, Fraxel re:pair works by treating only a fraction of the skin and leaving untreated areas around each treatment zone to accelerate healing. Fraxel re:pair penetrates deep into the skin to remove old, damaged skin cells, stimulates your body's own natural healing process and replaces cells with fresh, glowing, healthy skin.

Mary Ward, a 60-year-old antiques dealer from Sag Harbor, has first-hand experience with this new laser system. "After neglecting my skin and with sun and smoking damage, my face had aged considerably. I went to Dr. Covey for this new fractional CO2 treatment," said Ward. "Immediately after treatment, I looked at least 10 years younger. This is such an incredible breakthrough. The procedure took maybe 30 minutes and I went home and had no pain whatsoever. I was able to attend a wedding four days later. This is truly a gift in life - I feel years younger and lighter!"

Dr. Covey is board-certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. He has served the people of Long Island and New York for over 20 years and was cited this year, for the fifth year in a row, by the Castle Connolly Guide as one of the "Top Doctors in New York."
