SoulCycle Spins Into Bridgehampton

Spinning + Yoga Vibe = a kick-ass workout at Bridgehampton's newest fitness center SoulCycle. New York City's premier indoor cycling studio for the mind, body and soul will open its second location on Butter Lane, Friday, May 25. Join them for a cardiovascular, fat burning, full body workout while relaxing your mind and letting go of your frustrations.
Full body workout? Yes, SoulCycle has even found a way to incorporate an upper body workout into its innovative spinning classes. A mix of yoga language and breathing techniques pairs with an intense workout where you can burn an average of 600-700 calories in a single 45-minute class. Julie Rice, co-founder, says you can expect to see results in just a few weeks.
You won't find any blaring techno music, flashing lights or screaming instructors here. This powerful workout is set to inspiring music that enables riders to "connect with their spiritual core and quiet their mind while reshaping their physical bodies." SoulCycle's music is an eclectic mix that ranges from U2 and Coldplay, to disco and James Taylor.
Situated in a renovated barn, their Bridgehampton location echoes the same relaxed, spa-like style seen in their New York City studio. It has a "light airy... Zen feeling, in a beachy way," said Rice.
Spin students at SoulCycle range from "people in their 70s to people in great shape working together to their own abilities," said Rice. The atmosphere is supportive not competitive, and students have been known to encourage each other.
Never spun before? No problem, all skill levels are welcome. Instructors are trained to provide personal attention and work with each rider to help them achieve maximum benefits. On your first class, show up early so the instructor can make sure you are set up correctly. According to Rice, a first timer can expect "to sweat a lot, feel an endorphin high and feel tired afterwards."
Founded by Ruth K. Zuckerman, a veteran fitness instructor who has taught extensively at East Hampton's Zonehampton, NYC's Reebok Sports Club and the Jewish Community Center - Elizabeth Cutler, a former real estate agent and owner of a private New York Jin Shin Jyutsu practice; and Julie Rice an avid indoor cyclist and entertainment talent agent/manager; SoulCycle NYC has been open just under a year on New York's Upper West Side and is already gaining fame with celebrity clients.
You never know who might show up in your spin class. SoulCycle NYC has celebrities Katie Couric and Kyra Sedgwick as clients and recently hosted a fundraiser for Hilary Clinton featuring an appearance by former President Bill Clinton. Spinners were treated to a speech on healthcare issues and then rode to Bill's hit list! SoulCycle raised over $100,000 for Hilary's campaign with this fundraiser.
Summer class offerings will include SOUL TRIP, SoulCycle's signature class. This is a mind and body extravaganza designed for both fat-burning and strength training. This class has both great music and energy. SOUL BASICS is a beginner how-to class that emphasizes form and connection with your core to build a strong foundation for healthy indoor cycling. Participants will learn about using a heart monitor and proper alignment in this fun introductory class. SOUL BURN is a hard-core, full body experience, focusing on core strength, while simultaneously toning both the upper and lower body. Want to get your kids involved? Try SOUL FAMILY where kids and parents ride together to the coolest music. Children must be 4'10" to ride. And for the spin enthusiast, SOUL SURVIVOR is their one-hour endurance ride.
Their full Hamptons schedule begins June 22 when classes will be offered every day. Until then you can ride with SoulCycle, Friday through Sunday for two to four Soul Trip classes per day.
Prices for SoulCycle Hamptons, which include shoe rental and water are $34 for single classes, $340 for a 10 class series, $660 for a 20 class series, $960 for a 30 class series or $2250 for an unlimited summer membership.
