Quogue resident Debbie Harry attended the Cinema Society screening of "Away from Her" last Wednesday. The star of the film, Julie Christie, made it out to the screening and the after-party, along with Hamptonite Kim Cattrall, Candice Bergen, Sandra Bernhard, Rosemary Harris, Amy Sacco, Rachel Roy, Robert Iler and Griffin Dunne.

Rajendra Roy, Director of Programming and Artistic Director of the Hamptons International Film Festival since 2002, will be leaving his position as of June 30, 2007 to join the Museum of Modern Art as Chief Curator of the Department of Film. He begins at MoMA on July 1, 2007. He will continue to serve as an artistic advisor to the festival through the October 2007 Festival.

Sag Harbor resident Joann Ferrara, the creator of Dancing Dreams, the ballet school for physically handicapped dancers recently featured on WNBC, attended the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation's Sixth Annual Women Who Care Luncheon last week, alongside honorees Joan Jedell, Gayle King, Maureen Lippe and Maxine Belson. Joann and her students were there, promoting Ballerina Dreams, Lauren Thompson's book about the program, which will be available at bookstores nationwide on October 2nd.

East Hampton resident David Lauren, son of Ralph Lauren, sang "Centerfold" by the J. Geils Band at Spotlight Live in New York City last week with his girlfriend, model Lauren Bush and her cousin, First Daughter Barbara Bush.

On Friday, May 18, East Hampton resident Amy Zerner will be presenting her newest collection of "Spiritual Couture" jackets and outfits at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. Her husband, Monte Farber, will be giving complimentary psychic readings during the show.

After attending Page Morton Black's 50th anniversary gala for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in New York City, former Quogue residents Billy Bryant and his wife Ruth Bowen, Aretha Franklin's agent of 47 years, have headed out to shop for a new home in the Hamptons.

On May 18, Alex Gordon, known for such New York City ventures as Bamboo Bernie's, Bourbon St., Zoo Bar, Big Al's and A.J. Gordon's Brewing Co., is opening a new restaurant at the location of the former 27 Lobster and Surf Shack in Amagansett. Gordon's new restaurant, 27 Authentic Mexican Kitchen, promises a laid-back, fun, high-energy retreat to enjoy traditional Mexican fare prepared by Executive Chef Mario Morales, from New York City's Dos Caminos.

The Town of Southampton held a skateboard competition on Sunday, May 6 at red Creek State Park in Hampton Bays. In the ten and under category, first place went to Kevin Fischer of Shoreham, second place went to Evan Jones of East Quogue and third place was a tie between Walker Jones and Travis Agee, both of East Quogue. In the thirteen to eleven-year-old category, first place went to Cody McGovern of Hampton Bays, second place went to Parker Robertson of Westhampton Beach and third place went to Dylan Rogers of Hampton Bays. In the fourteen and over category, first place went to James Fuchs of Hampton Bays, second place and the prize for Best Trick went to Corey Mercurio of Hampton Bays and third place went to Buddy Downs of Hampton Bays.

Westhampton Beach resident Michael Stoler of Apollo Real Estate, host of "Building New York," was honored at The Mann Foundation's Mann of the Year Awards with a special award for Community Service at their annual gala to benefit The Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at The Copacabana. Hamptonite Melissa Cohn, president of The Manhattan Mortgage Company, was named Broker of the Year, Ken Dichter, founder of Marquis Jets, received a special Humanitarian Award and Jane Friedman of Harper Collins received a Special New Yorker Award. Lawrence B. Benenson and James Stifel of Benenson Capital Partners were there to support their peers.

On May 17, Ross School's spring theatre will present the musical Oliver! at the Court Theatre in the Ross School Center for Well-Being. Directed by Ross School Theater Director Gerard Doyle, with musical Director Adam Judd and Choreographer Kate Mueth, the Ross ensemble of middle and high school actors will present Lionel Bart's highly successful musical, which features songs such as "Food, Glorious Food," and "Where Is Love."

On May 24, the Playhouse Project, in association with Swiss Global Artistic Foundation and Guild Hall, will host a Master Class for South Fork Public High School students under the baton of distinguished conductor Geoffrey Simon. Maestro Simon will lead the Master Class and select this year's two local high school student winners of the Elizabeth Brockman Award in Classical Music. Each recipient is awarded a scholarship for further study in music. At the discretion of Maestro Simon, two Judges Awards may also be made. In addition, a grant will be awarded to an original project designed by a South Fork high school music teacher. A bonus at the conclusion of this year's Master Class will be a special duet performance by two previous winners, violinist Jessica Tortorice of Southampton High School and violist Asalia Goldberg of East Hampton High School. All awards will be presented on June 16th at the 3rd Annual Playhouse Project Benefit Award Concert and Reception. This year's Benefit Award Concert features the dazzling young Russian pianist Gleb Ivanov.

On May 3, noted author and speaker Alfie Kohn will appear at Ross School's Center for Well-Being in East Hampton with a presentation that will include a lecture, question and answer session, and a book signing. Kohn, who writes and speaks widely on human behavior, education and parenting, has authored eleven books and scores of articles, and lectures nationally at educational conferences and universities as well as to parent groups and corporations.
