Police Blotter

Very Sad

In front of the Starbucks Coffee Shop in Southampton an accident took place that ended in the death a 16-year-old. A 1995 Cevrolet Camaro was proceeding westbound on County Rd 39 during light rain and spun out of control, colliding with a 2006 Toyota sedan. Pablo Saldivar, 16, of Sag Harbor, was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital.

Standoff

A scary standoff took place in Flanders last week when Tomaz Lepski threatened to kill himself with a kitchen knife unless police left the premises of a home that he had entered. The man was violating an order of protection. A hostage negotiator was called onto the scene and after a long negotiation members of the Emergency Services Unit were able to successfully take Lepski into custody after a struggle.

Pay Your Fines

A man was taken into custody by police for failure to pay a fine. He was stopped by police for an unrelated incident. When he was taken into custody and was processed at police headquarters, he paid his fine and was released.

Drunk Dialing

A man who was intoxicated in Hampton Bays was seen driving erratically by police and talking on his cell phone. When he was pulled over, the man failed a sobriety test and was subsequently arrested. His drunk-dialed friend on the other end of the line thought the entire call was a complete joke, and could be heard on speaker phone laughing as the inebriate was arrested.

Interesting Dish

A man in East Hampton was pulled over for a traffic violation. The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and had brownie crumbs all over his face. Suspecting foul play, the officer tested a plate of brownies sitting beside the man and determined that they were backed with a good helping of marijuana. The man was arrested.

Party Time

A group of about a dozen teenagers broke into a Southampton home and decided that they were going to have a party. The home's caretaker showed up, however, and the automatic security alarm went off. The teens, who all understood the difference between a house alarm and party music, made a run for it out the back door, as bottles of beer and alcohol were left behind. The teens' ages ranged from 15 to 18 years old. Police arrived shortly after the alarm went off and went on a manhunt to round up the teens. Some of the teens turned themselves in, while others were hunted down with a German Shepherd and rounded them up. Police found marijuana in the house. About a dozen or so teens were arrested, and police say that there were some who got away, but are expected to be caught. The investigation is still underway. Now that is not what the homeowners were expecting when they bought their "summer get-away" in Southampton.

83-Year-Old Drunk

An 83-year-old drunk driver was arrested in Quogue by Village police at 8:45 p.m. last week. He was charged with a DWI. The man had been spotted by many residents driving erratically.
