Breaking News

Lance Cpl. Margaret McMahon, the missing Sag Harbor marine who disappeared recently from Escondido, CA with her husband, Pfc. George Kevyn Reid, has been found. Though her family initially believed she had been abducted or harmed by Reid, McMahon called them last week to say she left the marines voluntarily because she had been suffering from anxiety. The family had never met Reid, whom McMahon met last fall and married in January. Friends who spoke to McMahon the day before the couple disappeared on March 31 said she seemed distressed because she had been arguing with her husband.

Escondido police, who initially were investigating the case, dropped it after McMahon was identified on a surveillance video attempting to withdraw money from an ATM in Kansas, saying it was out of their jurisdiction. There was also video footage of the couple shopping at a Missouri convenience store, and both appeared unharmed. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the U.S. Marine Corps were continuing the investigation when McMahon, unaware of the media blitz surrounding her disappearance, reached out to her family. In a recent article, a family member reportedly said that McMahon was planning to turn herself in. Once in custody, McMahon and Reid will face disciplinary action because of their unauthorized leave.
