Police Blotter

Terrible Car Accident

A tragic car accident took place last week that killed one woman, a 46-year-old from Amagansett. The accident was a head-on collision. The driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot and was later arrested. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the deceased.

What Law?

A man in East Hampton was pulled over and arrested. He was first pulled over for speeding, and then police found that he had no driver's license. The car he was driving was not registered. The man appeared to be high on marijuana and police found him to have a small amount of marijuana in his car. You can't make this stuff up.

Stalker?

There is some evidence that a woman has a seriously dedicated stalker on her hands. A woman in East Hampton called police after she heard strange noises outside of her bedroom window. When she went to have a look, she found a man running at full throttle, with a large ladder in his hand. Apparantly the man decided that he was going to use the ladder, which he brought with him, to get a better view.

Theft

A man in Hampton Bays reported that his gym bag was stolen. Inside the gym bag, the man had left his cell phone, which contains a GPS tracking device. The man looked up where his cell phone was on a computer when he went home, and found out where the gym bag was. The man went to that exact location, which ended up being the lost and found of the gym that he normally goes to.

Fire Starter

A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested in East Hampton for arson after police determined that they had deliberately set a tree on fire. Yikes.

Steve Brautigam

The Southampton Town Comptroller Steve Brautigam was arrested after being pulled over in Southold Town and charged with a DWI. According to the report, Brautigam was uncooperative when he was arrested. The out of control Southampton Town Comptroller blew a 0.18 when arrested, double the legal limit. He has publically apologized for the incident.

Stolen Laptop

A high school student reported to police that his laptop had been stolen in Riverhead. The laptop is valued at $1,000 and also has intrinsic value, since the laptop was the student's primary avenue to facebook.com.

No More Oil

A man at a service station in Southampton avoided real trouble when he attempted to not pay for an oil change because he felt that he had waited too long. The mechanic told the man that he had no problem draining all of the oil out of his car and giving the car back to him. The man reluctantly paid.
