Ring-ing in the Nuptials with Wedding Jewelry By Betti Sands
A bride has so many choices to make for her wedding. One of the most fun has to be jewelry. Today, apart from the traditional pearls and diamonds, brides want to create a look and style that is their own. More and more, brides look to mirror current fashion trends in their bridal jewelry. That translates into bigger, bolder pieces like large drama earrings, sparkling crystal bangles and glittering crystal and pearl cuffs, as well as statement necklaces that draw attention to the neckline.
Many jewelers on the East End feature a vast selection of classic and modern designs for brides - from demure to dramatic - with crystals, hand-polished and knotted simulated pearls and sterling silver. But fashionable jewelry isn't just for the bride: it also makes a great gift for bridal party attendants. Sterling silver bangles, engraved with words like Friend, Sister, or Love, can be created by most jewelry designers. Other treasured and affordable bridal gifts include freshwater cultured pearls in hand-knotted necklaces, bracelets and earrings in stud or drop styles in pearl alone or pearl accented with cubic zirconia.
But, back to the bride, Robert's Jewelers in Southold is an independently owned family operated store, specializing in fine gold and gemstone jewelry - from custom designed diamond engagement rings, to designer jewelry. In addition to this array, Robert's is now carrying the newest line of Pandora Jewelry.
Rose Jewelers, also independently owned, has stores in Southampton and Patchogue, where there is a full time bench jeweler. The company carries jewelry from all the top designers, as well as its own original designs. Rose's featured designer, Lauren K, has a beautiful line of jewelry, from antique cushion-cut rings and diamond pendants to chandelier earrings and hand-hammered gold. Her "bohemian chic" designs feature a rainbow of color with pink tourmalines, aquamarines, yellow beryls, and peridot, among other striking gems. Rose offers full services for brides, including assistance with choosing and /or designing an engagement ring or wedding bands, and will work with brides on gifts for the wedding parties. Rose's website (rosejewelers.net) provides a informational guide on how to purchase a diamond, for the uninitiated.
London Jewelers, with stores in East Hampton and Southampton, also has a full line of outrageously gorgeous engagement rings, diamond eternity bands, and bejeweled wedding bands, as well as colored diamond earring and studs in a variety of styles. And of course, you can't overlook Tiffany & Company, with a location in East Hampton, for the top of the line jewelry for brides and grooms for decades.
